Preceptorship 2
Have you seen a totally brand new empty pharmacy before?
Well, I did! (dunno whether it something that can be boasted :P)
Yes, I am one of the few privileged ones to be able to help in merchandising all the products and medicines you can find in a typical pharmacy. It's like building a pharmacy from scratch! And the type of products you can find inside there is simply insane! I can barely name more than 15% of all the products there? That's why most of the time when costumers come in asking for products that are not OTCs or P medicines, I will just go blank and get from the Pharmacy Assistants.
Grand opening of the Branch in Plaza Singapura!!! Do drop by if you happen to be there. It's located at basement 2 opposite Sakae Sushi.
My current working hours:
10:00am to 6:30pm (Monday to Saturday)
More updates to come!

Preceptorship 1
Wow... been rather emo for the past few weeks (well, that's what you get when you only get to go back home for less than 4 days after slaving in Singapore for such a looong time) so didn't have the mood to blog until NOW! Just came back from a jog and a cooling bath and I am totally refreshed now :D
Yups, here goes my preceptorship report!
For the 1st two days, we're lucky to have a Preceptorship Orientation conducted by our NTUC healthcare Chief Preceptor, Mariam! She's such a sweet lady! We've been introduced to the structure of the NTUC healthcare and all the different aspects of Unity Pharmacies. Well, all of those made more sense to when we went to the "Living Pharmacy" at Tampines One Mall and Suntec City. All the drugs that we've studied in the notes suddenly became so real to us!
(tips to juniors: if you want to score well for Pharmacy Practice II next year, please visit the pharmacy and don't just hide in your room or library, trust me... I regretted not doing that and hence a B- for my PPII :(..... oh wells)
On the third day, I travelled to "the Living Pharmacy" at Tanglin Mall where I was attached there for the next 3 weeks. The costumer base there consists mostly of Caucasians and I really mean it! 9 out of 10 costumers have blonde hair with their superbly adorable children!! Here's the layout of the pharmacy.
And yes, I got to know a lot of people there.
Me and the superbly "Genki" Sales lady, Susanna
Caiyun, my preceptor's Poly Student who was also attached in the same pharmacy as me! She's super hardworking and knows so much about the drugs in the store!
(From left) Joan, the executive manager of the store and Helen, the super experienced Pharmacy Assistant
Florence, another super experienced Pharmacy Assistant
Last but not least, my co-preceptor, Darren (aka Sze Guan) who is super super clever and really shoots me a lot of question (yeah i know it's for my own good)
Strangely, I have yet to take a picture with my real preceptor!!!! Need to take with her!!
My experience in Tanglin Mall branch was really pleasant. The staff there are really warm and very enthusiastic in their work too! Everyone gets to learn from each other, really akin to a big family. I can feel the warmth :D Occasionally I get treats from the staff there too!!
My working hours are as follows:
AM shift - 9:00am to 5:30pm
PM shift - 1:00pm to 9:30pm
But since last wednesday, i was transfered to another branch at Plaza Singapore (it's a new store!). That will be covered in my second blog post!

Well, it really takes discipline to blog about our everyday lives in our little pharmacies... But the thing is i haven't even taken any pictures of my pharmacy!!! Never fear, I will do so today! And you know what, today's my last day in Tanglin Mall and I will be transferred to Plaza Singapura tomorrow!!

Pharmacology revision 2

Let's memorise Pharmacology!
When you see M1 students, you will say: "sigh.. M1s these days..."
M1 mAChR activation leads to stimulation of gastric acid secretion and reproductive system
When you see M2 students, you will fall in love with them because....
M2 mAChR activation leads to:
1) SAN leading to decreased heart rate
2) Decreased contractility of atria
3) Decreased conduction velocity and AV block at AVN
When you see M3 students, they look like that!
M3 mAChR activation leads to
1) stimulation of constrictor pupillae muscle --> constriction of pupil
2) Contraction of ciliar muscle --> relaxation of lens
3) stimulation of exocrine glands and hence secretion (e.g. saliva)
4) activates bronchi smooth muscle --> airway constriction
