Pharmacy Year 3 Sem 1

I have nearly vanished from the face of this blog for the past 4 to 5 months, and have turned my active face onto facebook. How interesting...

Year 3 sem 1 in pharmacy was defined by a stream of mugging, where the flow never cease.

"Failure to flap your fins in this flow forces further frowns on the face, and fancy fellow friends flying flawlessly with fleeting fury. Upon finishing, then you realised that you have fell into the fanatic fandom of furious mugging. Free from the frank feelings of fury and fuzz, yet you have fleed from the fun of the flourishing life ahead of you."

My ten-cents worth on being litty.

I need to break myself from this flow and channel myself to the stream of Life that can only come from Him.

Which reminds me of this song:

As the deer panteth for the water
So my soul longeth after thee
You alone are my hearts desire
And I long to worship thee

Chorus
You alone are my strength my shield
To You alone may my spirit yield
You alone are my hearts desire
And I long to worship thee

You're my friend and You are my brother,
Even though you are a king.
I love you more thank any other,
So much more than anything.

I want You more than gold or silver,
Only You can satisfy.
You alone are the real joy Giver,
And the apple of my eye.

Aside from Medicinal Chemistry, Pharmacology II, Pathology and Dosage Form Design II, I also took Intro to English Literature. At first the thought of taking literature was intimidating, but at the end after my lit paper (which was the last one), i felt that I have the ability to expressed myself better, in English, which explains why that chunk of Fs above.

Louis, you can be emo, but you must not forget the great plans ahead of you, which is full of life.

Post mortem KEWOC 0910

Your Working Style

You are friendly, adaptable realists. You rely on what you see, hear, and know first-hand. You good-naturedly accept and use the facts around you. You look for a satisfying solution instead of trying to impose any "should" or "must" of your own. You are sure a satisfying solution will turn up once you have grasped all the facts.

You solve problems by being adaptable, and often can get other to adapt, too. People generally like you well enough to consider any compromise you suggest. You are unprejudiced open-minded, and tolerant of most everyone--including yourself. You take things as they are and thus may be very good at easing a tense situation and pulling conflicting factions together.

With your focus on the current situation and realistic acceptance of what exists, you can be a gifted problem solver. Because you are not necessarily bound by a need to follow standard procedures or preferred methods, you are often able to see ways of achieving a goal by "using" the existing rules, systems, or circumstances in new ways, rather than allowing them to be roadblocks.

You are actively curious about people, activities, food, objects, scenery, or anything new presented to your senses. Your expert abilities in using your senses may show in:

You make your decisions by using the personal values of feeling rather than the logical analysis of thinking. Your feeling makes you tactful, sympathetic, interested in people, and especially good at handling human contacts. You may be too easy in matters of discipline. You learn far more from first-hand experience than from books, and do better in actual situations than on written tests. Abstract ideas and theories are not likely to be trusted by you until you have been tested in experience. You may have to work harder than other people to achieve in school, but can do so when you see the relevance.

You do best in careers needing realism, action, and adaptability. Examples are health services, sales, design, transportation, entertainment, secretarial or office work, food service, supervising work groups, machine operation, and many kinds of troubleshooting.

You are strong in the art of living. You get a lot of fun out of life, which makes you good company. You enjoy your material possessions and take the time to acquire you. You find much enjoyment in good food, clothes, music, and art. You enjoy physical exercise and sports, and usually are good at these.

How effective you are depends on how much judgment you acquire. You may need to develop your feeling so that they can use your values to provide standards for your behavior, and direction and purpose in your lives. If your judgment is not developed enough to give you any character or stick-to-it-iveness, you are in danger of adapting mainly to your own love of a good time.

Some interesting happenings at Unity that I forgot to blog about

Zuellig Pharma Trip

I am fortunate to have the chance to visit a pharmaceutical distributor company called Zuellig Pharma. Though the company do not make the medicine from scratch, the humongous number of types of pharmaceutical products of different shape and sizes definitely requires a certain system to store them. The warehouse was SOOO large and there were conveyer belts here and there to transport products from their respective shelves to the collection point. It's rather complicated and sadly, no photos allowed. :( But oh well, at least now I know how a Purchase Order (PO) is being processed and translated into the arrival of the product into our pharmacy. And we got goodie bags too!!

The Proper Way to Dispose Medicine

Once you received this bag of expired or used medications from the customer, thou shall
1) open the bag

2) Empty all solid medicines into this bag

3) Empty the liquid medicine into the bag... And here's what you get!!!!
( and because of this i get to see what is the color of the bottle of Nurofen.. It's orange!)
Outing with the following old ppl last sunday (14/6)

Unity Fun Outing (UFO)

It was a night of fun and laughter with both the preceptors and preceptees of the Unity Pharmacies!! Yes, it took place at a McDonalds at Toa Payoh. If you minus the kiddy element of the venue, it was a good place for gathering! We had loads of fun playing Zoom-in and Charades/taboo, all done in Pharmacy style, i.e. try acting Regaine 5% using just gestures but no talking.

And... my embarassing moment came when they found out that it was my birthday the day before... and I couldn't run away from that kiddy mcD hat!!!

Yups... that's about it.

My 21st Birthday

It all started last night at about 11+ when I was in the midst of a programme meeting with Adrian and Jian Sheng and Ken Juin (the laptop)..

Hui Ning came all the way from Harbour Front to give me this :D

That was how I was touched the first time.

Then came a beautiful electronic voice from Ken Juin through Skype :D

That was how I was touched the second time.

The next morning, while working halfway at the pharmacy, my Dad called me to wish me Happy Birthday! Haha, my old man is very proud that I'm no longer a boy but a man!! I love my Daddy!

And further at about 5 plus, my preceptor (the pharmacist) bought me a cake and celebrated birthday with me!!

How many people can celebrate their birthdays in a PHARMACY? I must be the most blessed preceptee in the whole world!! Look at the background! Not only my newly-made friends in Unity Pharmacy, but I have medicines to celebrate with me too :D Say hi to Dalacin-T and Zocor and Regaine!

That was how I was touched the 3rd time.

Next, after work at the pharmacy, Zichun and Peng Siang came over to Plaza Singapura to have dinner with me :D Then they got me to choose my present and i bought "The ultimate collection of Carpenters"! And Zichun showed me how he can play the arcade for about 20 mins with just one 50 cent-worth of token :P (again, forgot to take picture!!! HOW COME!!)

That was how I was touched the 4th time.

On my way back, my mum called me up and wished me Happy Birthday! :D It's been quite a while since I last talked to her for such a long time. I love my Mummy! :)

And upon my arrival at the doorstep of my room, this appeared at my door knob.

And upon entering my room, this was found at my study desk.

Well-wishes from Adrian, Xiao Shuang, Xu Su, Priscillia, Gavin, Yunlan, Chun Keat, Wendy and Wenqing!

That was how I was touched the 5th time.

When I open my gmail, i had like 62 wishes from facebook. Getting spammed with blessings :)

What a birthday!!!

Even though my birthday did not involve any alcohol or big grand parties with loads of people attending it, I am glad that God has planned it so perfect that He has allowed me to cherish the small little things in my life and it made me flushed (I mean it). I was feeling so warm and happy throughout the whole day today!

I am so thankful :D

My Wish List

Usually I don't do this for birthdays, but after hearing from Peng Siang, I should do this! Because I know from experience, that birthday gift shopping could be such a pain sometimes :P So here goes!

1) Sports Shoes (size 42)
2) Sling bag (big enough to put my 1L fat water bottle, umbrella, tissue paper...)
3) Minoxidil 5% (Regaine, Growell, Minoxi5... anything that can get "them" started)
4) Small but foldable bible (those with zip) with study guide
5) Water bottle (preferably BROS with super colourful designs but not purple or pink!)
6) Watch (I realised that without a watch it could be quite troublesome during preceptorship, and i think i prefer digital to analogue)
7) Carpenter's album (suddenly fell in love with them again)
8) Latest Hillsong Albums (dunno which one is the latest)
9) Bedsheet (anything bright will do! Single bed)
10) British National Formulary (BNF - it will be good to have a copy of this book!)

That's all I can think of!!

Aiyoh... feel so paiseh :P but deep down in my heart I am really happy :) I have never celebrated my birthday in Singapore on my real birthday proper. Wonder how would it be this year.... hehehe

Unity @ Jurong Point

Aiyah!!!! Why didn't I take picture?!?!??!??!?! Only realised that when I felt like blogging about it....

Anyways, due to time constraint, here are some interesting happenings at JRP!

1) My 2-day preceptor, Ting Ting: She's such a nice lady and I really treat her like my jiejie! Always enjoy learning together with her!! ( I SHOULD HAVE TAKEN A PICTURE WITH HER!!!!! Why are all the female pharmacists in Unity so pretty???? :P)

2) It was there that I had the chance to counsel a patient in MALAY! There was this Malay uncle who came to look for some eye drops. He couldn't really understand my English and so i began the conversation by saying "sakit?". Yeah at that instance, he sort of fell in love with me and started telling me everything in Malay. While I can understand what he was saying, replying him took me quite some time but it was done rather smoothly!! *pats myself*

"Pak Cik... yang ini.... selepas dibuka, cuma boleh simpan 1 bulan.... yang ini boleh membasahkan mata kering...."

Haha so proud of myself :D

3) There was this lady who came to my counter and started smsing. I offered her help by saying "hi mam, how may i help you". But she stood there, eyes focused on her handphone as she was smsing her way through. So, I ignored her for a while. After about 30 seconds, she showed me her phone.

"You have Vitamin E cream for a girl who has just recovered from chicken pox"

Wow... then i went directly to Ting Ting. And she entertained them. Through writing on the piece of paper! Subsuquently, the lady went to approach her husband who was nearby and they started communicating in sign language!

Although I always see silent people in my church, this was actually my first time communicating with them! It was eye-opening :D

More to come.... :)

Preceptorship 3

Continued from last post on my preceptorship...

Yes finally I took a picture with my preceptor and also with all the staff in the new store!!!!

Here's the pretty preceptor whom I was taking about! She's Jasmine and she is just 4 years older than me! So young and capable!

Friendly staff attached to the PSG branch. Somehow people who are working in Unity are just so warm and amiable :)

Next week, I will be transferred over to Jurong Point (at Boon Lay) for 2 days to experience life at a different outlet with a different customer base; the 3rd day will be back to Tanglin Mall to collect more prescriptions; the 4th day will be a field trip to Zuellig Pharma, a pharmaceutical company!

Looking forward to it!

2 more weeks left... and
When one works in a pharmacy, one feels that time flies like no one cares..
My preceptorship will end in 2 weeks' time and wait awaits me after that are challanges beyond my imagination... we'll see....

:D
